
Sometimes people will conform to be accepted by the people around them. I wouldn't want to be with people that don't enjoy what I do because we wouldn't get along. The role is true to who I am because I hang out with people who are like me and who I have fun with. The people your around affect you and how other people think of you. People want to be cool but they also want to hang out with people they enjoy being around. The status you hold in your social sphere define you as the person you are or trying to be. Where do you fit in the social scale at your school? In what wasy has the status you hold in your social sphere defined you? In what ways is this role true to who you are? In what ways is it not? I think in my school I fit in the social scale in the middle. At Tyler's high school there is a clear disctincton between the popular crowd and everyone else. Tyler had been reborn and started going down the right path.ģ. His dad finally opened up to his family at the end of the book and Tyler confronted the kids at school who beat him up. He was reborn by doing his probation work, figuring problems out with his dad, and dealing with the kids at school. That just caused more drama with his family and the cops. He "died" by doing that prank just to be noticed by kids at his school.

His dad, Bethany, school, and he was always getting in trouble whether he did something or not.

He had so many problems that kept occuring throughout the book. Why? In what ways has he died and been reborn again throughout the story? Tyler likes the thought of death because he thinks suicide will release him from all his problems. Although he doesn't seem like a depressed person, Tyler admits to being preoccupied with death. He always put himself down because of his social status in school.Ģ. He usually was noticed in a bad way and has always been a nerd.

Throughout Tyler's life he had low self-esteem because he was never noticed as the cool kid in school. He likes working hard landscaping and using his muscles for work. School was not his main priority , "The time I dedicated to crossing the Pit contributed to a failed calc quiz and the plugging of my governement grade from C to D " (92) He doesn't really care about learning or school.

He wanted to do something that would make him be noticed and he got caught. His prank caused him to spend his summer doing probation work. The figurative holes Tyler dug for himself are his prank, not trying at school, and low self esteem. What figurative holes has Tyler dug for himself in his life? Is it really true that he isn't good at anything else? Tyler's landscaping job develops his muscles, but also allows him to use his skills at digging holes: "I was good at digging holes.
